Stuart Evans discusses what the administration of Debenhams means for the high street
Speaking to Drapers Online, Stuart Evans has highlighted what choices companies such as Debenhams face amidst potential collapse and what challenges may have led to the demise of the high street department store, in the wake of the Arcadia administration.
Stuart said: “Administration will normally allow companies some breathing space from creditors, to see if a rescue deal is possible. However, in these extraordinary times, it can clearly prove difficult to make a strong case to potential buyers. This would be the case for Debenhams, given the underlying challenges the retailer faced prior to and during Covid and now, crucially, the administration of one of its key concessions in the form of Arcadia.”
