BLM’s Corporate & Commercial team closes multimillion pound sales
BLM’s Corporate and Commercial Partners, Danny Varney and Matt Poli, have recently completed on two largescale multimillion pound business sales within the technology and e-commerce sectors.
Danny advised on the acquisition from shareholders, including private equity firm Foresight, of the e-commerce business in the gardening and landscaping sector, Hedges Direct Group, to a company controlled by current chairman Steve Caunce for an undisclosed sum. Matt has advised the shareholders of The Edge Software Consultancy Limited on their £8.5m sale to Instem Plc, a leading IT solutions provider in the fields of global healthcare and life sciences. Both deals closed ahead of this year’s budget.
Commenting on the completion, Andrew Lemon, Managing Director at The Edge, added: “This is a strategically important step for The Edge team and the support and guidance provided by Matt and the corporate team at BLM has been crucial as we join the wider Instem family. Matt’s insight throughout the sale of our business means that we are now in a good position to harness the global resources, processes and reach of Instem. I am confident that through BLM’s support we can now take the next step in our journey to bring our innovative solutions to more scientists around the world.”
Matt Poli, Partner within BLM’s London office, commented: “As BLM looks to strengthen its corporate advisory offering, we’re increasingly advising on the sales, mergers and acquisitions of some genuinely exciting businesses operating within thriving sectors, such as e-commerce and IT. Given the potential impact of the March budget, the team has had the opportunity to work on a flurry of high-value M&A matters of late, and it’s been an honour to advise the likes of The Edge’s shareholders and Foresight as they strategically grow their businesses and portfolios.”
Danny Varney, Head of BLM’s Corporate and Commercial team, commented: “BLM, strengthened by the addition of Matt Poli and Andy Herricks, have seen sharp increase in deal activity over the last 12 months. We’re delighted to have advised on such a significant transaction as the Hedges Direct acquisition, amongst a number of others in the e-commerce, technology and property investment sectors, and look forward to continuing growth in the coming year.”
